How to Drive Smoothly with a Manual Transmission

If you’re a new driver and driving a manual transmission, it can seem scary. You can also feel uncomfortable because the vehicle shakes and the RPMs run high. But driving a manual transmission smoothly is very easy. You just need to know how to use the clutch, when to shift gears, and how to use the accelerator. After lots of practice, you can drive your vehicle smoothly with a manual transmission. let’s understand how?

Use the Clutch Properly

If you want to operate manual transmission you need to know how to use the clutch when you change gears. Always keep your left foot resting on the clutch at all times and make sure you engage the clutch whenever you need to. When you like to put pressure on the clutch, push the clutch pedal softly and in a controlled way to put the engine in neutral gear.

Your one wrong step can create a problem in your transmission, so use clutch properly while driving and keep transmission free from any kind of internal damage. In case it gets damaged due to overpressure or mishandling, you can look for a used transmission for sale to get the best alternative.

Shifting gear

When the time comes to shift gears, you can use your left foot to engage the clutch by putting pressure on the pedal to the floor. Rather than heavily, press the pedal down smoothly. While driving when RPMs reach the 2500 range, it's time to shift gear into the next higher gear. when you change gear correctly at its right time, it will help you drive the vehicle smoothly on the road.

Press the accelerator Slowly

Accelerator controls the engine’s RPMs and the speed of the vehicle. If your engine is in gear and you want to increase speed smoothly, continue to apply pressure with your right foot to the accelerator. But, when you suddenly release all the pressure from the pedal, the car will jolt forward and cause you to move forward from the seat. So, release pressure slowly from the accelerator and prevent the car to jolt forward frequently.

The bottom line

Just like an engine, the transmission also needs regular care and maintenance for its longer life. Your transmission also consists of several components that need timely maintenance to run smoothly. If you are looking to replace the old transmission with a used transmission then consider buying used transmission with a warranty.
